Historical collection

This collection contains more than 10,000 works dedicated to the history of medicine, pharmacy, medical philosophy and biomedical ethics. The works are either donations from private owners or from collections in permanent storage:

• the former Jan Palfyn Foundation, a non-profit organisation
• the Library of Ghent University
• the departments of the Faculty of Medicine and the University Hospital Ghent

The collection aims to contribute to the preservation of the medical-historical heritage and the study of the history of medical education, healthcare and healthcare services, and medical culture.

Opening times

The works in the historical collection can be requested via lib.ugent.be. It is not possible to borrow the books, but they can be consulted at the Knowledge Centre.
